Inspired by the medieval village of Belcastel in the south of France, this original painting captures the warmth, history and quiet atmosphere of a place shaped by centuries of life.
Rather than creating a literal representation, I wanted to express my own impression of Belcastel. The ancient château rises above the village, while the houses below are brought together through warm reds, oranges and earthy tones. Against the deep blue sky and surrounding landscape, the village takes on an almost timeless character.
Visible brushstrokes and layers of acrylic paint give the work texture and depth, making the original painting a very different experience from seeing it on a screen.
